Chalet and Gardens of the Countess of Edla

Brief Description: A unique mansion, built by the King consort Ferdinand II for his lover and second wife Elise, an American-Swiss Opera singer. Considered one of the great Love stories in Portugal.

Year Built: 1864-1869

Highlights: UNESCO World Heritage Site, Garden with over 200 botanical species. Chalet built in the style of a Swiss Chalet of the 19th century, highly adorned rooms. This monument won an award in 2013 for the Best Conservation in Europe.
