Casa Piriquita

This is the famous place that originated the Queijadas pastry over 160 years ago. The King D. Carlos I was so enthusiastic about this sweet delight, that he encouraged the owners to start selling them. He also gave the owner the nickname "Piriquita" because of her small height (which is a lovely word for a small bird). This coffee shop is in the middle of the historic centre.

One of the most famous Coffee Shops in Sintra. In walking distance from the Sintra train station on your path to the historical city centre. Maria Sapa started selling a few dozen Queijadas to wealthy visitors in 1756! They became a hit among the wealthy and the rest is history! You have to come early as this place is very popular!

"Saudade" is a very used Portuguese word and it is difficult to translate. It means something along the lines of "longing", "missing you or something".
