Castle of the Moors

Brief Description: One of the oldest, best preserved medieval fortresses in Portugal with roots in the Moorish era of the countries history. Important landmark with breath taking views over the Sintra-Cascais-Lisbon region. Became a Monument of National importance in 1910.


Year Built: 8th century, reconstructed and expanded over the next 3 centuries (1100s)

Highlights: UNESCO World Heritage Site, architectural styles, including Moorish, Gothic, and Romanesque influences. Well preserved cemetery, church, horse stables and walls. Amazing views.
